FYI: Genghis Khalid Muhammad/GKM coined the locution: “Communication is the key! Keep the communication alive! Without communication we have nothing! Communication builds bridges! Communication is the link to all problems and solutions!”
FYI: The first live band experience for GKM (Genghis Khalid Muhammad) was during the Christmas and New Years holiday season, when his Maternal Grandmother would sing with the backing of the Family Trio Band. (Consisting of his two Uncles and his older Brother) The band was a combination of piano, bass fiddle and drums. This was sort of a Family tradition that occurred for several years in the childhood life of GKM. The first cousins of GKM: Barry Barney and Lavern Trawell, (his peers) were always singing duet, with the dream of becoming famous. Whenever they sang together just for pleasure or practice, they sounded professional. And Lavern as a solo – singer had such a beautiful and dynamic voice that could stand with the best Artist of the day; like Beyonce and others. (GKM wrote a song with Lavern in mind, regarding music.) GKM’s Uncle Bubber (his Mother’s eldest Brother) taught him how to pen lyrics at the age of eight (8) years old. The Family of GKM was and still is musically inclined. DooWop was a major influence in the lives of what was called the “Baby Boom Generation.”(1940 to 1964) GKM is in fact a “Baby Boomer.”
